Introduction to Routing

Description

This class will aim to teach you the basics of table and handheld routers, including a multitude of router bits. During this class, you will create a plaque with text of your choice.  We will also demonstrate the basic functions of a CNC router.

Instruction will encompass a range of topics, including table router operation, handheld router operation, as well as guidance on distinguishing and replacing router bits.

Materials

  • Choice of wood: Mahogany or Maple

Considerations

Your final plaque size will be approximately 12” L x 6” W. For members, it’s important to understand that completing this class does not authorize you to use the CNC machine without permission or supervision.

Please remember that wood is a naturally sourced material and may contain flaws or imperfections.

Attire

For your safety and protection, please ensure that you wear tight-fitting shirts, long pants, and closed-toed shoes throughout the class. During heavy machine and power tool operations, it is imperative to tie back long hair, roll up long sleeves, and wear hearing and eye protection. You are welcome to bring your own protective gear, or you may use the ones we provide free of charge.

Duration: ~4 hours (Please note that this is an estimation that may differ based on your proficiency and learning speed.)

Class Fee: $290 

You do not need to attend a safety orientation in order to attend a class.
