What classes do we offer?

At Woodworkers Retreat, we provide two categories of classes. In our "skills" classes, participants learn the fundamentals of working with wood, utilizing a combination of hand tools and specialized machinery. Alternatively, we offer "project" classes where individuals can learn to create specific items like bowls, picture frames, or charcuterie boards.

Are there classes or memberships for kids?

At Woodworkers Retreat we offer family memberships for parents and their children 8 years and older. Specialized classes involving saws and cutters have an age limit of 12 years old. While classes such as the birdhouse class are offered for children 5 and older.

Who can take woodshop classes?

Our woodworking classes welcome individuals of all interests, including hobbyists, DIY enthusiasts, those seeking a productive pastime, individuals contemplating a career in carpentry or furniture making, and professionals aiming to enhance their expertise. Age criteria may differ, with specific classes catering to minors and others tailored for adults.

Can I bring my own tools?

At Woodworkers Retreat, we provide all essential tools and materials required for our classes. Additionally, for members, we extend the privilege of bringing along any specific tools they may require, which may not be available in our shop. (Subject to management approval)

Is the Safety Orientation Course required for taking a class?

No, in a class you are under the direct supervision of one of our experienced staff members so you do not need to take the safety orientation.

Is woodworking dangerous?

Woodworking involves tools and machinery that can be dangerous if not used correctly. However, with proper safety training and precautions, woodworking can be a safe and enjoyable activity. Membership at Woodworkers Retreat typically begins with comprehensive safety instruction.

What should I wear to woodshop class?

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that does not hang loose. Avoid jewelry and tie back long hair. Closed-toe shoes are a must, preferably with a protective toe. Safety glasses and hearing protection are required and provided by Woodworkers Retreat. Remember, the specifics of each class can vary, so it's always a good idea to check our class descriptions online or contact our shop directly with any questions you might have.

What is a membership woodshop?

A membership woodshop is a shared workspace equipped with woodworking tools and machinery that individuals can access through a membership model. It allows woodworkers of all skill levels to work on projects in a fully equipped shop without the need to own or store large, expensive equipment. Think of it as a gym but with saws and planers instead of weights and treadmills.

How do I become a member?

To become a member, you need to sign up through the woodshops website or in person. All memberships require the completion of a safety orientation and agreement to the shop rules and policies.

What does the membership fee cover?

Membership fees generally cover the use of the workspace and machinery. Fees also contribute to the maintenance of tools, purchase of communal materials, and the overall running of the space. You will have access to all of our tools, including sand paper for the orbital sanders and wood glue. 

Are there any prerequisites for joining?

Woodworkers Retreat requires members to complete a safety orientation class before using the equipment. This ensures that all members are familiar with proper tool use and shop safety protocols. 

Can I store my projects and materials at the woodshop?

Woodworkers Retreat offers limited storage space for active projects and personal tools for a small, additional fee. Please contact us for rates.

Is there someone available to help if I have questions or need assistance?

Woodworkers Retreat staff are readily available to offer assistance or answer questions. If you need specialized training on a machine, we hold regular classes and provide individual training for a fee.

Can I bring guests or work on projects with others?

Woodworkers Retreat may allow members to bring guests under certain conditions. Guests need to follow the same safety protocols and will need to sign a waiver. Please contact a staff member for additional information regarding guests prior to inviting them to the shop. 

Are there any safety rules I need to follow?

Safety is a top priority at Woodworkers Retreat. All members are required to complete a Safety Orientation prior to shop use. Members are required to follow all safety guidelines, which include wearing protective gear, properly using machinery, and keeping the workspace clean and clear of hazards. Violating safety rules can result in membership suspension or termination.
